A focus on Sustainability
Faerie’s Dance was founded with the specific mission of finding an intersection between fashion and sustainability. We knew that beauty and ethical, eco-friendly production could go hand-in-hand and that stylish clothing could be made with minimal environmental impact. So we set out to find it!
In 2005, very few eco-fashion companies existed. While “hippy” style tie dye clothing and hemp t-shirts were easy to find, uncovering quality, sustainable, everyday fashion took more than a little effort. We envisioned a sustainable fashion superstore, where eco-conscious shoppers could get everything from business wear, to underwear, to evening gowns all in one place at reasonable prices. We scoured the planet to find innovative individuals and companies who were creating quality, wearable clothing without polluting.
Over the years, many sustainable fashion brands have come and gone, but inch by inch, sustainability in fashion has grown in popularity. The number of brands available has increased, and Faerie’s Dance has expanded with it.
Today, we carry over 1200 products including our own in-house manufactured line of organic cotton underwear. Every single piece we carry is curated to ensure minimal environmental impact, including:
• Natural fabrics grown without pesticides and herbicides
• Man-made fabrics that are carbon-neutral or made from recycled materials
• No and low-impact dyes
• Absolutely no chemical finishing agents
• No or very low production waste
While some brands are still packaging individual items in plastic bags, we are focusing more and more on finding brands that do not use plastic package and we’ve started a campaign to convince all of our brands to halt the use of plastic packaging all together. So while some of your items might still come in plastic, don’t be surprised to get a package filled with recycled tissue-wrapped panties or bras in paper bags. We've even gone to great lengths to provide you with environmentally sound gift wrapping options!
Sustainability in the Office
Our sustainability commitments are also reflected in the way we run our office. We use 100% post-consumer recycled paper to print our invoices, and print double-sided for all our in-house paper uses. We reuse boxes and packing materials that are shipped to us, and have recently switched to 100% post-consumer recycled plastic mailers that are re-sealable. Heck, we even use recycled pens!
